As an important part of multiple evaluation methods,test formative evaluation is an important measurement tool for the quality of English teaching.The new curriculum standard emphasizes the irreplaceability of formative evaluation in the teaching process.It pays attention to the monitoring and reflection of students in the learning process,and can detect the effect of English teaching,so as to obtain feedback information,play its role of“promoting learning by evaluation”,and get improved in English Teaching.The monthly examination test is one of the performances of test-type formative evaluation.It is an important part of the teacher's teaching process.It can evaluate the current learning status of students in a timely manner.It is not only one of the means to check the teaching effect,but also an important way detecting the learning effect of students.This article uses the backwash theory to analyze the monthly examination papers of s middle school through test paper analysis and surveys in questionnaire and interviews with 31 teachers and 210 students,which try to solve the following problems: Does the monthly test have a positive impact on the teaching content,teaching resources,teaching methods,and teaching resources in English teaching? What evaluations and suggestions do teachers and students have on the current monthly test?The research conclusions show that the monthly test has a positive impact on the teaching content,teaching resources,teaching methods and teaching resources in English teaching,and most teachers and students have a positive attitude towards the monthly test.Teachers attach great importance to monthly exams.The implementation of monthly exams encourages teachers to review their teaching and adjust teaching methods,not only to meet the requirements of students,but also to meet the expected results of teaching results.In order for students to achieve the best results in the monthly test,teachers have to take a series of actions and a series of teaching behaviors.For students,the teacher's teaching,the teacher's emphasis on the monthly test and the teacher's behavior after the monthly test will have an important impact on students' learning.Therefore,a good English test can be of great valve in English teaching,that is,it can promote the development of English teaching,and cultivate students' comprehensive language ability,which ultimately enhance students' comprehensive quality.According to the research results,in order to better exert the teaching effect,the enlightenment of this article for improving English teaching practice are:(1)Innovate the subject horizon and focus on teaching with a cutting-edge perspective;(2)Combine teaching and test to test the teaching effect;(3)Pay attention to listening and speaking ability,all-round isomorphic student quality;(4)Pay attention to mental health,and solve test sequelae in time.Finally,this article lists the shortcomings of this research.
