Language test has emerged along with the development of foreign language teaching.The HSK is a type of language test,which is mainly used to measure whether the candidates of Chinese as a second language have reached a certain level.The impact of language test on language learning and teaching is called the washback.At present,researches on washback at home and abroad mostly focus on English tests,but pay less attention to HSK,a large-scale Chinese test.Therefore,this study will be based on the theoretical framework and research results of the washback,using quantitative and qualitative research methods such as questionnaires,classroom observations,personal interviews and other research tools.This thesis focuses on students' learning and teachers' teaching to explore the impact of HSK on Chinese teaching and learning by studying overseas students in Shanghai International Studies University who have taken HSK and international Chinese teachers from several domestic universities.The research shows that HSK has an impact on both teaching and learning of Chinese,with a significantly greater impact on students' learning than on teachers' teaching.The overall positive impact is greater than the negative impact on both.Meanwhile,students' motivation,understanding of the test and teachers' views on various aspects of the test are the main factors which influence the intensity of the HSK washback.However,due to the limitations of the test itself,individual differences of learners and teachers,and teaching materials,HSK's role in promoting Chinese language teaching has not been fully demonstrated.Finally,inspired by the research results,the author puts forward several feasible suggestions for students,teachers and the test itself,in order to give full play to the positive role of HSK in Chinese teaching and learning,and promote the dual development of test,learning and teaching.
