As a great literati in the middle and late Ming Dynasty,Wang Zhideng was famous for his poetry and literature at that time but was not good at painting,so this paper starts from his identity as a literati and explores the influence of his identity and friendships on his view of painting and calligraphy appreciation and even evaluation concept.Wang Zhideng's only book of painting evaluation reviews,Wu County Danqing Zhi,is not long, recording only twenty painters from Wu,but it has distinctive features and certain research value;in addition,Wang Shouden also has a large number of painting and calligraphy inscriptions survived, from which Wang Zhideng's painting thoughts can be glimpsed. In this paper,we combine the Wu County Danqing Zhi with the painting inscriptions, take “The Four Pins” as a vein, supplemented by the relevant contents in the inscriptions, and organize and summarize the theoretical focuses such as imitation and realm.By systematically analyzing Wang Zhideng's views on painting from the perspective of literati,it enriches and improves the Ming Dynasty painting quality evaluation system.
