Erwin Schulhoff(1894-1942),a Jewish Czech composer from the end of the 19 th century to the beginning of the 20 th century, has an important position in the history of European music. Most of his works are influenced by post-romantic styles, and they have an inseparable relationship with Czech native music in both music style and musical body. However,we rarely mention him in the history of European music that we are familiar with, especially in the history of piano music. In fact,Schulhoff was extremely active in the European music scene in the early 20 th century. This point can be seen from his large number of music creations.During his short life,he wrote a large number of musical works, including 1 opera,6 symphonies,4 concertos, and a large number of piano and chamber music. In his music creation, jazz elements are particularly prominent as a unique musical style. He also became one of the few composers who were influenced by jazz in the early 20 th century.A large part of his piano work is about jazz. The two piano compositions break through Schulhoff's more traditional lines of creation.Instead, they use the relevant elements of early jazz to create two pieces that have a variety of early jazz styles, like Ragtime, blues, jazz dance, etc. The full text is divided into five chapters. The first chapter is an introduction, expounding Schulhoff's research significance and related literature. The second chapter outlines the artistic background of Erwin Schulhoff's artistic life, music creations, piano works, and two piano works studied in this thesis. The third chapter begins to explore the origin and development of jazz music, its influence on classical music, and Schultenhof's piano works with jazz elements under the influence of early jazz. The fourth chapter gives a detailed analysis of Schulhoff's two piano works in melody, harmony, rhythm and jazz dance style. The fifth chapter is mainly based on the fourth chapter, but it is from the performer's point of view, which explores the interpretation and processing of these two works, and proposes relevant guidance in the interpretation of the jazz style and the specific performance form. The purpose of this article is to give people a deeper understanding of Schulhofer himself and his piano works with jazz elements;through the introduction and analysis of these two piano suites, the piano players are expected to have more choices in the performance of piano tracks, and learn more modern piano works.Hope that this paper will provide a theoretical reference for studies about Schulhoff and his piano works.
