The traditional watermark woodblock prints of China and Japan both have the development track of taking reproduction as the main purpose.China's watermark woodcut has a long history,especially in the Ming and Qing dynasties,there are brilliant achievements.Engraving works,prints,and Taohuawu New Year pictures introduced into Japan from the Ming and Qing Dynasties had a great influence on the formation of Japanese Ukiyo-e prints.With the progress of modern photographic printing technology,engraving as a plural work of art has been impacted.During this period,the development direction of the two countries' prints was different,and they went to different creative paths respectively.China's watermark woodcut prints from the past to copy the Chinese painting mainly in the form of reproduction,into the creation of prints.The purpose of creation is more to serve the society.With the development of the westernization of Japan,the extremely mature and charming Japanese watermark woodcut was formed in Japan at the beginning of the last century,laying a foundation for the development of Japanese woodcut.Starting from the time when the two countries entered the printmaking period,this paper will sort out the similarities and differences in different stages from the perspective of printmaking,stage development characteristics and picture characteristics in chronological order,and systematically elaborate the track of their historical development.This paper classifies and analyzes the development stages of watermark woodblock prints from the beginning of China's emerging printmaking to the present and the beginning of Japan's new printmaking movement to the present,sorts out their similar development veins and different development situations,and compares the similarities and differences in the development of watermark prints from the two countries.The influence of regional culture on artistic form language is studied from the perspective of watermark woodcut learners.
