Imagination is the most unique and dreamy way of activity in human thinking.Its ethereal,intangible and unpredictable noumenon always bursts out the brilliance and light beyond the reality,which makes countless scholars and artists cast eager eyes on it.The established cognition of imagination refers to the conscious activities carried out on the basis of sensory experience and memory representation,while the imagination in art is infused with more free and colorful and unrestrained decoration and ornament on this conscious activity.As one of the most ancient and wonderful art forms in human history,dance is full of the existence and miniature of imagination.As the most representative and explicit activity link of dance,the shaping of characters in dance performance needs more participation and in-depth development of imagination.Therefore,this paper uses three chapters to explore and study the relationship between imagination and dance performance from the surface to the inside and from the superficial to the profound.In the first chapter,it elaborates the important relationship between imagination and character image in dance performance,and analyzes the relationship between emotion and imagination,as well as the relationship between imagination and image by using image thinking.The second chapter discusses the role of imagination in the characterization of dance performance from four angles.The third chapter combines the specific classification of imagination,with examples to analyze the concrete application of imagination in shaping character images in stage practice.This paper explains the function and application of imagination in the characterization of dance performance,and proves the practicality and key of imagination in the practice of dancers' performance.
