A Study Of The Expressive Language Of Odilon Redon's Figure Painting

Redon is one of the most representative painters of French Symbolism in the 19 th century.His works take the combination of mythological figures,religious figures and flowers and plants as the theme,which gives his works a unique sense of painting.Redon's early works are weird and scary,while his later works are mysterious and dreamy.He expresses the “truth”of emotion through illusory things,and uses simple picture elements to express the beauty of human nature and express his inner emotions.The strong subjectivity and expressiveness in Redon's works create a mysterious and dreamy picture atmosphere.In the contemporary painting environment,to discuss the expressive characteristics of Redon'scharacter painting language is in line with the aesthetic of The Times,and it is of profound significance to broaden the research path of Redon's art theory,which is worthy of further study by later generations.Firstly,this thesis expounds the background of the formation of Redon's works from two aspects: Symbolism literature and painting,Oriental art and culture.Then respectively describe the presentation of the expressive language of Redon's works from several aspects,the modeling,background,color,brush strokes and lines,and through the specific image analysis,to explore the specific characteristics of the expressive language of Redon's figure painting,and then discuss the influence of Redon's art on that time and later generations.Finally,I summarize the inspiration of Redon's figure painting works to my own creation,and combine with my own painting creation for a deep understanding and application.
