In recent years,Chinese verb g?i has attracted much more attentions from scholars. Most of the scholars described or analyzed g?i from the perspective of syntax, semantics or pragmatics.Although these studies can explain the meaning of g?i,there are some limitations of previous studies,i.e.they only study g?i's meaning from the single perspective;the interactive study between syntax, semantics and pragmatics is needed. With the development of post-Gricean pragmatics,semantics-pragmatics interface has become a new trend of pragmatics study. It discusses the semantics-pragmatics interface meaning indicated in the process of language change, which makes the study of meaning more comprehensive, scientific and creative. This research tries to solve two research questions:(1)What is the grammaticalization process of g?i?(2)How to explain the meaning of g?i from the perspective of semantics-pragmatics interface study? Therefore, this thesis attempts to combine the diachronic evolution mechanism of language with semantics-pragmatics interface, regarding the merger representation model of Default Semantics as theoretical framework. It figures out unified merger representations for six sorts of meaning for g?i's grammaticalization process with sentence analysis as qualitative research method. The thesis finally concludes that the meaning formed during g?i's grammaticalization process is a semantics-pragmatics merger meaning of grammaticalization. This study offers a more comprehensive interpretation for the meaning of g?i,providing some references for meaning study of the other Chinese grammatical category words. To some extent,it enriched the semantics-pragmatics study and the development of meaning theories.
