This is a project report of the translation of Chapter 6 extracted from Default Semantics:Foundations of a Compositional Theory of Acts of Communications written by Kasia Jaszczolt,a professor from University of Cambridge. This book introduces a new theory of explaining the semantics/pragmatics interface—default semantics.Chapter 6 mainly introduces the application of default semantic theory to future tense.Academic monograph is a kind of theoretical work in a specific field composed on the basis of achievements in scientific research. It's of great benefit to the development and construction of academic field. With the strengthening of globalization and the role of science and culture in national development, the translation of academic monograph also gains growing importance. It can not only promote the academic communication among countries, but also raise the academic level of our own. Therefore, this translation project is of great academic significance. The translation of academic monograph is very difficult because it involves the translation of specialized words as well as long and complex sentences.During the translation of the academic monograph, the author adopted different translation methods such as conversion, amplification and simplification to deal with difficulties on the ground of dynamic equivalence proposed by Nida. From this translation, the author comes to realize that the improvement of bilingual competence is not enough to a translator.A good translator should also master the background knowledge of the material to be translated before he starts his translation. What's more,he should weigh his word and treat translation seriously during the process.
