The Greek View Of Life (Chapter 2) English-Chinese Translation Practice Report

This translated text is selected from chapter two of the cultural monograph The Greek View of Life,namely the Greek view of the state.The text mainly introduces Greek culture and its thoughts from five perspectives,with a view to enhancing the reader's understanding of Greek culture.As an informative text,it highlights the importance of transferring facts,so the communicative translation theory proposed by Peter Newmark is adopted,considering the target language readers can better understand Greek culture.The case analysis mainly discusses the translation of parentheses and conditional sentences in cultural monographs from the perspective of English to Chinese translation.As for the translation of parentheses,the translator mainly adopts six translation methods,such as prepositional translation and post-positional translation;while concerning the translation of conditional sentences,the translator mainly analyses from the perspective of explicit and implicit conditional sentences,so as to find out the corresponding translation methods.Through this translation practice,the translator hopes to enhance the readers' understanding of Greek culture and provide reference and guidance for future translation activities of similar texts.
