How language information is recognized and represented in the human brain is an important field of linguistics and cognitive psychology.A large amount of evidence shows that both low-order and high-order information can affect human information processing, and context is an important factor. However, there is no unified definition of context at present. Therefore, this paper defines context as linguistic context(context in which words appear)and cognitive context(systematic pragmatic knowledge in cognitive process, such as language decoding, category and concept(metaphor, metonymy),schema activation, etc.),From the perspective of language ontology and cognition, this paper studies the role of context in vocabulary recognition and representation.Vocabulary,as the basic unit of language,is the starting point of expression and cognition. For Chinese second language learners, vocabulary acquisition is not only limited to memorization, but also involves the transfer of semantic information and the expression of emotional information. The words with semantic information and emotional information are emotional words.Emotional words are the basis of Chinese second language expression. The accurate understanding and expression of emotional words can improve their communicative ability. Therefore,it is worthwhile to study the role of context in the recognition and representation of Chinese emotional words. In addition, related studies have found that there are differences in the processing of concrete and abstract concepts. Therefore, this paper makes a concrete and abstract division of emotional words in order to carry out a more in-depth study of emotional words.Taking concrete and abstract emotional words as experimental materials and Chinese second language as subjects, this paper explores the role of context from two aspects: recognition(Experiment 1)and representation(Experiment 2).In Experiment1,the lexical decision paradigm was used to investigate the role of contextual diversity in identifying concrete and abstract emotional words(neutral)by manipulating word frequency and contextual diversity. The results show that: compared with concrete neutral words, contextual diversity plays a greater role in the recognition of abstract neutral words, that is,compared with concrete neutral words, linguistic context plays a greater role in the recognition of abstract neutral words. In Experiment 2,the vertical spatial judgment task paradigm was used to explore whether there were metaphors in the representation of emotional words(positive and negative)with different concreteness. The results showed that there were vertical spatial metaphors in the representation of concrete, abstract positive words and negative words, but the effect of vertical spatial metaphors was affected by the concreteness of words,That is to say, compared with concrete positive words and negative words, abstract positive words and negative words are more closely related to spatial metaphor.Experiment 2 shows that, compared with concrete emotional words, cognitive context has a greater impact on the representation process of abstract emotional words(positive and negative). The results of the two experiments show that context has different effects on the processing of emotional words with different concreteness: compared with concrete neutral words, language context has a greater effect on the recognition of abstract neutral words;Compared with concrete positive words and negative words, cognitive context plays a more important role in the representation of abstract positive words and negative words.
