A Study Of Monster Image Formation In Hollywood Sci-fi Movies

Monsters,as the "evergreen" of artistic subjects,have become a shining ace in the box office of science fiction films with their diverse and horrific images.All monsters come from people,not only because they are shaped by people,but also as a projection and extension of the external and internal worlds of human beings,and the relevance of monsters in films can only be revealed in man-made film texts.Mature Hollywood science fiction films are adept at using symbolic stylistic symbols and combining advanced technology and shaping techniques to artistically transform monstrous images,turning fantastical imagery into tangible visual spectacles,so that these monsters can complete their aesthetic journey in the artistic realm in a relationship that is both familiar and alien to the audience.The success of the Alien film series is a classic example of how the fantasy of monsters has never stopped and how they are portrayed has never ceased to be explored.This thesis takes the alien image in the Alien film series as its object of study.The thesis is divided into four chapters,which are introduced in two aspects through four theoretical dimensions,exploring the visual presentation of the alien image in the Alien film series and the connotative meaning of the alien image runes from the perspective of film semiotics;and exploring the strategies of portraying the monster image in Hollywood science fiction films from the perspective of figurative,aesthetic and ideological criticism.The thesis firstly takes time and social background as the coordinates to sort out and study the screen image of Hollywood monsters,secondly takes the Alien film series as the sample of monster image study,through analyzing the means of shaping the Alien image,deconstructing the explicit symbols and implicit meanings of its image,so as to lead to the analysis and exposition of the strategy of shaping the image of Hollywood monsters.Finally,the development path of the monster image in Chinese genre films is explored by drawing on the experience of shaping the monster image in Hollywood science fiction films.
