Fluency is an extremely important dimension of the ability to produce spoken output in a second language. At present, research on spoken fluency in Chinese as a second language is not comprehensive, while research that focuses on its dynamic development process is scarce. This paper investigates the development of oral fluency among beginners of English as a second language, based on complex dynamic systems theory.' ' Firstly,a case study was adopted to follow the development of oral fluency of two Chinese beginners,Student B and Student J,respectively, for 10 weeks, and the development process was analysed for micro-variation.Secondly,the learners' fluency development process was observed, comparing the individual differences of different learners and revealing their change characteristics, summarising the similarities and differences in speaking development, and examining the dynamic correlation of internal indicators.Eventually, factors affecting speaking fluency are identified from the perspectives of cognition, topic and environment, and practical teaching suggestions are made. The following conclusions were drawn from the discussion and dissection.1.the development process of each of the two students was dynamic and variable, and both showed an overall trend of jumping up.2.The overall difference in the development of speaking fluency between the two students was small, with significant differences only in the average length of pauses, complete pauses and repetitions per hundred syllables.3.Currently,the development of oral fluency of two students is influenced by various aspects,in addition to the fact that they gradually adjust and adapt themselves under the interaction of various dynamic factors.4.In terms of dynamic correlations between the eight indicators of the two students, there were ten pairs of indicators that were significantly correlated with each other, indicating that most of the indicators could influence each other. This demonstrates that the development of oral fluency among beginner Chinese speakers of English is significantly dynamic and variable, with variation being the driver of development.
