A Study Of The Origin Of The Word "lead Yellow" In Ancient China

The statistical data were retrieved according to the "basic Chinese ancient books database of i Research".This paper analyzes the quantity and meaning of the word "qian huang" in the literature of each period.Its application can be summarized into four historical stages: the origin stage of the Wei,Jin,southern and Northern Dynasties;The rapid development stage of Sui,Tang and Five Dynasties;The continuous prosperity stage in song and Yuan Dynasties;The succession stage of Ming and Qing Dynasties ?The formation of word meaning is the product of certain historical conditions.Through the study of this paper,it is found that the word "qian huang" was originally used as a substitute for "a certain symbol pigment",but it has extended to at least 13 meanings in the later history.It is worth noting that the term "qian huang" in the Tang Dynasty may refer to both "qian huang" and "lead powder orpiment".
