In the later period,Wai-Lim Yip entered the field of hermeneutics from comparative poetics and then paid attention to translation issues. His translation practice and poetic thoughts developed interactively, forming a unique poetic landscape. This paper starts with Wai-Lim Yip's translation practice, and constructs an overall study of Wai-Lim Yip's translation and poetics through the comparative analysis of his English translation of Chinese ancient poetry. The full text consists of four parts. The introduction summarizes the current research status of Wai-Lim Yip at home and abroad, and clarifies the background of the questions raised;the first chapter summarizes Wai-Lim Yip's translation strategies and effects, combined with specific text analysis;the second chapter focuses on Wai-Lim Yip's "Chinese standard",which points out its specific aesthetic standards;the third chapter summarizes and evaluates a series of "cultural dislocation" phenomena in the practice of English translation of Wai-Lim Yip's Chinese ancient poems and his poetic viewpoints.Wai-Lim Yip touches the differences between the two cultures from the differences between the Chinese and English languages.Through literal translation, clever use of punctuation, and flexible combination of parts of speech and other translation strategies,he surpasses the limitations of English grammar so as to preserve the connotation of Chinese poetry to the greatest extent. The superposition of translation effects such as multiple image juxtaposition,time-space fuzzification and circular space structure achieves the pursuit of "restored intuition"(straight out of experience). The aesthetic requirements of "quality","true quality" experience and "huitong" aesthetic feeling are highly consistent with their poetic viewpoints;at the same time, due to the misreading and misjudgment of linguistics, traditional Chinese thought and the grafting of Chinese and Western thoughts,Wai-Lim Yip's translation exists a series of "cultural dislocations",which leads people to question its Western centralism.Facing the deficiencies of Wai-Lim Yip's translation practice and his poetics can provide valuable experience for the construction of the current Chinese discourse system.
