Trump's "competition strategy" towards China revealed the era of strategic competition between China and the United States.Trump's strategic competition with China, based on four official Trump administration documents, represented by the 2018 edition of the National Security Strategy Report, has positioned China as a“ strategic competitor” of the United States, and has started the competition relationship with China in the fields of economics, technology, politics and humanities. In the economic field,Trump launched a trade war and trade investigations against China;in the field of technology, the Trump administration blocked and censored China's high-tech technology, and suppressed and restricted Chinese companies. At the same time,Trump also payed special attention to competition with China in the field of digital economy. In the field of politics and diplomacy,Trump engaged in the "Hong Kong question" and "Taiwan question”,interfered in China's internal affairs, exerted extreme pressure on China.Trump also stigmatized China by putting the responsibility of Covid-19 on China. In terms of military,Trump has proposed the "Indo-Pacific strategy" and strengthened its military presence in the South China Sea.In the field of humanity communications, the concept of "sharp power" was invented,Confucius Institutes were reviewed, measures to restrict visas and expulsion of some Chinese personnel were taken against China, and the Chinese embassy in Houston was closed. The motivation of Trump's "competition" with China can be explained by the "status competition theory".The proximity of power between China and the United States has triggered "status anxiety" in the US,prompting Trump to adopt "competitive methods" to maintain America's position advantage. Finally,Trumps' strategy has two main impacts: first,it started the prelude to the Sino-US "strategic competition" relationship;second,it damaged the US hegemony in a certain degree.
