Research On Baudrillard's Consumption Society Theory

Jean Baudrillard was a famous French sociologist and philosopher.He was keenly aware of the new changes in capitalist society in the early 20 th century,in which the development of western societies gradually shifted from production-led to consumption-led.The change of social phenomenon has aroused the academic attention of western sociologists such as Lefebvre,Marcuse,DE Boer,while Baudrillard went further on the basis of absorbing and drawing on the ideas of many masters.Based on the “Consumer Society” and the “Critique Of Symbolic Political Economy”,this paper first sorted out the sources of baudrillard's theory of consumer society.Baudrillard's theory of consumer society was a collection of great achievements,his works were not only based on marxist theory,but also absorbed many western marxist theories of consumer society.Then it introduced the content of baudrillard's consumption society theory,and revealed that the cause of western consumption society was the profound change of capitalist society,the rise of consumerism and the one-way change of human beings,characterized by mass consumption,consumption alienation,symbol consumption and consumption stratification,analyzed the transformation from production society to consumption society,and the transformation from production consumption theory to consumption production theory.Then,the transformation process from Marx's theory of value to baudrillard's theory of symbolic value was emphatically discussed,that was,the construction of baudrillard's theory of symbolic value.On the one hand,it revealed the process of baudrillard's criticism of symbolic political economy.Symbolic political economy finally declared war on symbols.Baudrillard believed that only by returning to the original symbolic world could he get rid of the control of symbols,thus falling into nihilism.Finally,the paper pointed out the consumption problems in China in combination with the problems in the western consumer society,and put forward the ways to deal with the consumption society problems in socialist China in the new era.
