With the continuous progress and development of society,the work of the disabled,especially the work of children with intellectual disabilities,remains the top priority,and attention should be paid to the issue of their ability to take care of themselves.Children with intellectual disabilities are often labeled as unable to live independently and thus are marginalized by society.In the process of Sunshine Home Service and reading related literature,the author found that an important problem is the lack of self-care ability of mentally handicapped children.Self-care ability is a necessary ability for a person to grow up and live in society,especially for children with intellectual disabilities.They will eventually be able to survive in society.It is not only the expectation of children with intellectual disabilities and their parents,but also the ultimate goal of special education and rehabilitation.According to the current situation,the self-care ability of mentally handicapped children is not ideal,and there are still a lot of difficulties.This article has conducted a thorough study and sorting of domestic and foreign literature on children with intellectual disabilities and their self-care ability,and decided to study children with intellectual disabilities as the object of research using the dominant perspective theory and field theory.Selected children with moderate mental retardation as the research objects from the Sunshine Home Nursing Home in T City.Use questionnaire method and interview method to sort out the needs of the research objects.Evaluate the level of self-care ability according to intelligence scale and self-care ability scale.Six eligible children with moderate intellectual disabilities were selected as self-help group members.A group work plan was designed to improve the self-care ability of mentally handicapped children and fully tap the advantages of the service targets.After 6 group activities,the self-care ability of the research subjects has been significantly improved,which enhances the self-confidence of the clients and the ability to survive independently in future life.This study uses the self-help group work method,in which group members help each other in the group to solve problems in group activities.Reflect the values and concepts of social work in group activities for children with intellectual disabilities.Combined with the research results of the group work,countermeasures and suggestions are put forward for improving the self-care ability of children with intellectual disabilities.
