Mentally handicapped children is a special group of people with disabilities who cannot live alone and need long-term care and education by their parents.Family education plays an important role in the cultivation of children's self-care ability,social life adaptability,the formation of personality and the growth of other skills.However,due to lack of knowledge and limited resources,parents of mentally handicapped children lack of social support and professional guidance for family education to a certain extent.Based on social support theory,social learning theory and dominant perspective theory,this paper uses literature analysis method,participatory observation method and semi-structure interview method to conduct data collection and subject research.The parents of mentally handicapped children in L County have the following problems and needs in family education: First,the concept of parent education is weak;Second,the need to develop children's self-care ability;Third,the need for skills of nursing and family education;Fourth,the need for emotional support;Fifth,the need for psychological stress relief.On this basis,eight family education support groups were designed and implemented.In the group,parents have enriched their social activities and mastered more family education methods and skills.They have formed a parental support group,which enhanced the communication with special school teachers,broadened their social support network.The group work improved the situation of family education for mentally handicapped children,optimized their family rehabilitation environment.Meanwhile,the family education support group promoted development of home-school cooperation.The development of the group activities played down the sense of distance between team members and school,and enhanced the interaction and communication between team members and school.On the basis of practice and theoretical reflection,the author puts forward three suggestions: Firstly,from the perspective of family,parents should strengthen cooperation and jointly educate mentally handicapped children;Secondly,from the perspective of school,school should strengthen their interaction with families,and promote the institutional development of family education support group;Finally,from the perspective of society,society should increase attention and support to families with mentally handicapped children.
