This study aimed to investigate the students challenges in asynchronous E-learning in Mongolian higher education and to recommend possible solutions to overcome those challenges in order to improve the online education in Mongolia.Online education has entered the Mongolian higher education relatively recently,and the scope of application is still limited.As a foundation for the widespread adoption of online learning,this study aims to identify the factors that influence student's readiness and challenges for online learning.In the last few years,most Mongolian public and private universities have adopted e-learning as a new approach to teaching and learning.However,students are facing challenges that might affect their learning performance.Having an in-depth examination on student's challenges is meaningful to overcome these challenges,and to improve the online education quality in higher education in Mongolia.This survey-based study was conducted in random Mongolian university students which are currently studying.The through a random sampling descriptive analysis on the survey data was conducted using SPSS.Correlation analysis and regression analysis were also conducted to gain the factors influencing students online learning attitudes and performance.To support the quantitative data,online semi-structured interviews were conducted.The quality data was analyzed by narrative analysis.This study found that the major challenges included:lack of direct feedback to students learning,course size is small,student's negative attitude toward online learning,and lack of collaboration,low quality of E-learning course,inactive learning environment,low level social interactions,and poor technical conditions.Based on these major challenges,possible solutions,such as provide the incentives to online instructors,provide training to instructors about the online instructional design,ensure technical help desk is available all time and provide training on the students about how to use the online learning platform effectively were put forwarded.This study had theoretical and practical implications for enhancing the online education in Mongolia.
