"In a short period of one year,we can do something that will never be forgotten." Since its establishment in 1998,the Chinese Postgraduates Voluntary Teaching Corps(referred to as “PVTC”)has been more than 20 years,adopting the working mechanism of "relay service and regular rotation".Nearly 20,000 college student volunteers have been selected and sent to the central and western regions of China,making outstanding contributions to the local basic education and poverty alleviation,It has positive practical significance under the current national conditions of our country.This thesis takes the development situation,existing problems and improving strategies of the service of the Postgraduates Voluntary Teaching Corps as the context,and expounds the train of thought of "Theoretical foundation--Current situation investigation--Service reflection--Problem exploration--Countermeasures and suggestions".By combing the literatures and interviewing the volunteers,this thesis summarizes the common problems existing in the current work of the PVTC and puts forward the corresponding feasible countermeasures.In addition to the introduction and conclusion,the thesis is divided into five chapters:The first chapter discusses the theoretical basis and its applicability.Volunteer service theory,educational poverty alleviation theory and service learning theory are introduced as the theoretical basis of this research.Postgraduate volunteer teaching is a social activity that shows voluntarism and altruism and takes education poverty alleviation as the basic task.The learning characteristics displayed in the process deserve attention and excavation.The second chapter is about the background and value of the foundation of the Chinese Postgraduates Voluntary Teaching Corps.Firstly,this thesis sorts out the relevant concepts and the background of the establishment of the Chinese Postgraduates Voluntary Teaching Corps and University Student Volunteer Service Western Plan,and summarizes the value of the establishment of the PVTC from the following three aspects:(1)Contributing to new forces in the grassroots organizations in the west;(2)Bringing new ideas to elementary education in the west;(3)Exploring a new service model of "support education +".The third chapter is a review of the present situation of supporting education service of the Chinese Postgraduates Voluntary Teaching Corps.Through the interpretation of the national project office and the recruitment documents of the Postgraduates Voluntary Teaching Corps of each university,the selection conditions and specific process of the members of the Postgraduates Voluntary Teaching Corps of the university are sorted out.Later,this research relys on the in-depth interviews with 36 members of the PVTC of eight universities in Nanjing,sets forth the living conditions and environment of the members of the PVTC in the service area,the general situation of the activities,and the harvest in the support and education services were elaborated.Through three stories,the author hopes to make the readers have a more perceptual and three-dimensional understanding of the voluntary teaching service.The fourth chapter is the analysis of the problems existing in the voluntary teaching service of the Chinese Postgraduates Voluntary Teaching Corps.(1)At the level of the construction of Postgraduates Voluntary Teaching Corps,the current system of PVTC is not perfect,and the pressure of multi-task is difficult to balance;As a human resource,it is not put in a reasonable position and causes waste;At the same time,the work of the PVTC is not exposed enough in the whole school.(2)During the service preparation stage of the Postgraduates Voluntary Teaching Corps,the service motivation of the volunteers were exposed to be utilitarian;The recruitment and selection mechanism of the volunteer teachers should be improved.The delivery of team members does not match the demand of the service place;It is urgent to strengthen the training link before the post.(3)It is difficult for the members of the PVTC to integrate into the service area during the development stage of the service;The present situation of teaching work of the PVTC needs to be improved.The rights and interests protection system for members of the Postgraduates Voluntary Teaching Corps are absent;PVTC was isolated in the process of volunteer teaching.(4)The lack of inheritance and reflection of the volunteer teaching work in colleges and universities is evident in the stage of the completion of the volunteer teaching service;The service place and the university appraisal mechanism are not perfect;Insufficient celebration and commendation after service;The PVTC members in colleges and universities lack follow-up attention.The fifth chapter is the suggestion and strategy to improve the existing problems of the Postgraduates Voluntary Teaching Corps.This study is problem-oriented and tries to learn from the mature experience of the concept of service-learning,and puts forward the following countermeasures:(1)Using the experience of service-learning for reference to perfect the construction of the PVTC: clarifying the orientation of the Postgraduates Voluntary Teaching Corps in our country while rationally allocating the multiple tasks of each group and teaching team,adapting to local conditions;optimizing the allocation of human resources,establishing the "decentralization" mechanism,to achieve mutual benefits of multiple subjects;to expand publicity efforts to enhance its awareness in the school-wide.(2)Paying attention to raising volunteers’ consciousness of voluntary service and abandoning utilitarianism in the preparation stage of the service of the Postgraduates Voluntary Teaching Corps;Adding multi-dimension consideration and paying attention to comprehensive strength in the recruitment and selection mechanism;Adjusting the mode of the mission delivery and paying attention to the distribution according to needs;Perfecting the construction of the pre-service training system for the PVTC.(3)At the stage of service development,we should improve the sense of belonging of the members of the Voluntary Teaching Corps,effectively protect the rights and interests of the grass-roots service staff,strengthen the multi-level communication among the Postgraduates Voluntary Teaching Corps,eliminate members’ sense of isolation.Pay attention to the learning of the Postgraduates Voluntary Teaching Corps’ teaching process.(4)During the period of service completion,we should attach importance to the inheritance and reflection within the Postgraduates Voluntary Teaching Corps,jointly optimize the evaluation mechanism with the universities,perfect the celebration and recognition,and create a sense of ceremony for the members of PVTC;The implementation of the previous Postgraduates Voluntary Teaching Corps’ members tracking management,the development of long-term training mechanism.To sum up,after 20 years of passing from generation to generation,the Chinese Postgraduates Voluntary Teaching Corps have made outstanding contributions to promoting the development of basic education in central and western China and helping to alleviate poverty through education.At the present stage,there are still some problems in the volunteer teaching work of Postgraduates Voluntary Teaching Corps in Chinese universities.Based on literature review and qualitative interview,this thesis puts forward countermeasures and Suggestions for improving the volunteer teaching service of the Chinese Postgraduates Voluntary Teaching Corps on the basis of clarifying the reasons. |
