In order to comprehensively improve the quality of its citizens and occupy a place in the fierce international competition,my country has carried out basic education curriculum reforms. In the process of basic education curriculum reform, textbooks,as an indispensable material in the teaching process, systematically reflect the relevant content of chemistry courses, and have always occupied a relatively important position.Metals and their compounds are an important part of the subject of "Common Inorganic Compounds and Their Applications",which are compulsory courses in high school chemistry. This part of the content is the curriculum content that all high school students must learn, and it is the basic chemistry knowledge that all ordinary high school students should have. When Shanxi began to use the new textbook in 2020,this article used the literature research method to find relevant information about the new textbook on the Internet, and analyzed the data. Then use the comparative research method and content analysis method to analyze and sort out the metals and their compounds in the old and new high school chemistry textbooks of the People's Education Edition. After comparing the overall and specific aspects,we find the two editions of the textbooks in terms of metals and their compounds. Some similarities and differences. After comparison, the research conclusions of this article are as follows:(1)Both the old and new curriculum standards are based on the curriculum concept of students' all-round development, advocating inquiry-based teaching and diversified evaluation methods for students. However, the curriculum objectives of the new version of the curriculum standard are more specific, the structure is more complete, and the content selection and requirements are different from the old version.(2)Both the new and the old textbooks have adopted the "chapter-section" format, which fully embodies the chemical principle of "the nature determines the purpose".However, the new version of the textbook puts the same elements together in the order of content arrangement,so that students can more accurately understand the main properties and uses of metals and their compounds.(3)The old and new textbooks have adopted a variety of textbook columns, textbook charts, and textbook exercises. However,on the basis of integrating the columns in the old textbook, the new version of the textbook adds new columns such as"Chemistry and Occupation"with characteristics, and at the same time increases the types and numbers of diagrams. It pays more attention to connecting with reality in terms of exercises.Comprehensive utilization of knowledge points.(4)The knowledge content of the new and old textbooks is roughly the same. However, the new version of the textbook deletes some of the knowledge that has been learned in junior high school and the knowledge that is not reflected in the curriculum requirements in the part of metals and their compounds, and adds the extension of knowledge in actual production and life applications.(5)The number and content of experiments in the new and old textbooks are roughly the same. However, the new version of the textbook extracts the students'must-do experiments and puts them after the chapters to strengthen the training of students'experimental operation skills.(6)STSE content is involved in both the new and old textbooks, but the number and methods of STSE have been increased in the new textbooks, linked to actual production and life, and enhanced students'sense of social responsibility. Finally, the author conducted interviews with local high school teachers. The content of the interviews was about the feelings of these teachers after using the new textbooks, and obtained the difficulties and confusions in the specific teaching use of the new textbooks. In response to these difficulties and confusions, the author gave teaching suggestions. The specific suggestions are as follows:(1)Research the specific requirements of chemistry curriculum standards.(2)Emphasis on various topics in the textbooks, give full play to the functions of the columns.(3)Reasonably use the diagrams and exercises in the textbook to inspire students' scientific thinking.(4)Give full play to the positive role of chemical experiments and highlight the characteristics of disciplines based on experiments.(5)Strengthen the penetration of STSE concept.
