“Education should be geared to the needs of modernization, the world and the future.” Deng Xiaoping,as the second-generation great leader of the party and the country, has clearly guided the direction of education in our country.Since the 21 st century, with the advancement of globalization of economic and the rapid development of science and technology, there are unprecedented huge demands for talents, and the professional needs have become more and more diverse. The talents cultivated with traditional education concepts and education models have been unable to meet the development needs of the 21 st century.Project-based teaching is a new teaching mode which is explored and respected by many colleges and universities. It is a new teaching mode which implements teaching content through unit project as the clue.In this paper, the constructivism theory,Dewey's pragmatism theory,Kerber's“Design Teaching Method”,and Ausubel's motivation theory were used as theoretical supports.Based on the investigation of domestic and foreign literature, combined with the characteristics of the chemistry discipline, the four core concepts of “21st century skills”,“core literacy”,“core literacy of chemistry discipline” and “project-based teaching” were defined.Secondly, through questionnaire surveys and interviews with some chemistry teachers and internship classes of the author's practice school,I learned about the cultivation of high school students' core literacy of chemistry by teachers and the current status of project-based teaching. Most teachers think that the development of project-based teaching in high school chemistry classrooms is helpful to cultivate students' core literacy of chemistry, but the curriculum development of project-based teaching has certain difficulties and requires a large number of professionals to participate in it.On this basis, the teaching strategies of project-based teaching in high school chemistry were proposed from the pre-class preparation stage, the classroom teaching stage, and the after-class evaluation stage. Finally, four project-based teaching cases were designed: “The Magical “Warm Baby”,“Margarine”,“Vinegar”,and “The Production of Tap Water”,and two parallel classes were selected as experimental subjects for teaching.Through the analysis of students' pre-test and post-test scores, student interviews, and the author's classroom experience,it was fully demonstrated that the application of project-based teaching in high school chemistry classroom can help cultivate students' core literacy of chemistry. In short, applying project-based teaching in high school chemistry and integrating knowledge into interesting projects can increase students' interest in learning and improve their grades. At the same time, students' core literacy of chemistry were cultivated in the process of group cooperation and exploration so that to meet the demand for talents for the rapid development of our country in the 21 st century.
