The task of graduate education is to cultivate innovative talents for the country and improve the scientific and technological strength and comprehensive national strength of our country.Academic postgraduates are the reserve of scientific research talents in China,and the level of their scientific research ability is related to the quality of scientific research talents in China.The scientific research performance of postgraduates is an important embodiment of their scientific research ability.Therefore,it is of great significance to pay attention to and improve the research performance of academic postgraduates.Based on the theories of interpersonal relationship and management by objectives,this study clarifies the connotation of supportive and controlling mentoring styles,and explores the influence of supportive and controlling mentoring styles on graduate research performance.Secondly,with the help of the two-dimensional theory,this paper introduces the "support control" joint guidance style,and further explores the influence of joint guidance style on graduate research performance.Finally,it analyzes the moderating role of personal initiative in the influence of guidance style on graduate research performance.Through the method of empirical research,this paper makes a quantitative analysis of 327 questionnaires of academic postgraduates in Q University,and draws the following conclusions:(1)The research performance of academic postgraduates needs to be improved.(2)Supportive and controlling guidance styles promote the research performance of postgraduates,and the promoting effect of controlling guidance style is stronger.(3)All dimensions of supportive guidance style(research support,emotional care and self support)promote the research performance of postgraduates;The dimensions of control guidance style(instruction arrangement and research supervision)also promote the research performance of postgraduates.(4)The influence of "support control" joint guidance style on graduate research performance is different.When the guidance style of high support and high control is adopted,the research performance of graduate students is the highest.(5)Personal initiative positively moderates the influence of supportive and controlling guidance style on graduate research performance.Based on this,this paper puts forward the following suggestions.At the mentor level:(1)Adjust the guidance content and improve the guidance behavior;(2)Change the guiding style and strengthen the guiding strength;(3)Adopt the joint guidance style to improve the guidance effect.At the graduate level:(1)Strengthen scientific research participation and increase scientific research investment;(2)Enhance personal initiative and increase research performance.At the training unit level:(1)Refine the management regulations of tutors and clarify the responsibilities of tutors;(2)Improve the tutor evaluation system to ensure the tutor guidance behavior;(3)Strengthen the training of tutors and improve the quality of tutors.
