Doctoral dissertation is an important symbol to measure the quality of doctoral students.It is the crystallization of doctoral students integrating professional knowledge,theoretical basis,academic level and scientific research ability.Thesis topic selection is an important step in the process of dissertation creation,which determines the content and value of the dissertation.In this study,the author takes eight universities as examples,through the "China National Knowledge Network(CNKI)" database,searched the doctoral degree theses of higher education in the past 20 years,and obtained a total of 565 sample theses.In terms of the selection of colleges and universities,the author selected eight universities that were authorized to grant doctorate degrees in higher education earlier in China,including Xiamen University,Huazhong University of Science and Technology,Nanjing University,East China Normal University,Nanjing Normal University,Soochow University,Southwest University and Hunan Normal University.In the selection of time,the author took the year 2000 as the starting point and the year 2019 as the cut-off point to conduct relevant searches.At the same time,on the basis of the analysis of the existing research,this paper discusses the status quo and the influencing factors of the topic selection of doctoral dissertations in higher education in China in the past 20 years.By means of content analysis method and mathematical statistics method,the sample papers are classified,and the research field,research level and research method are deeply discussed to analyze the influencing factors,orientation and principles of the topic selection of doctoral thesis in China's higher education in the past two decades.This research is divided into five parts.The first part mainly introduces the background and significance of the research,defines the core concepts of the research,and sorts out the relevant literature research status at home and abroad.The second part mainly summarizes the research ideas,determines the method of sample selection and analysis categories,and introduces the research methods used in this paper.In the third part,the selected sample papers are described and analyzed from three aspects: research field,research level and research method.The fourth part,according to the investigation results,analyzes and summarizes the characteristics of the sample papers and their influencing factors.In this part,the author finds that the sample papers have the following four characteristics of topic selection :(1)the wide range of topics,covering various aspects of higher education research;(2)It reflects the characteristics of the development of higher education in China.(3)It is comprehensive and attaches great importance to basic and applied research of higher education;(4)Greater inclusiveness and diversified application of research methods;In the fifth part,based on the situation of the thesis selection of doctoral students in higher education,the author has carried out some thinking,and found that there are four tendencies in the topic selection of the thesis of doctoral students in higher education in China :(1)at the level of topic selection,combining micro and macro research;(2)The nature of the topic is to combine theory with practice;(3)From the perspective of topic selection,based on the domestic,take a broad view of the international perspective;(4)In terms of the type of the topic,the classic and timeliness should be combined,and the principle of the topic selection should be summarized.Therefore,the development background of higher education in China and the relationship between the development of higher education disciplines will significantly affect the thesis selection of higher education doctoral students.Therefore,this study excavates the factors that influence the topic selection of higher education doctoral thesis from these two aspects.Because the topic selection to some extent is the epitome of the development characteristics of higher education,policy provides the basis for the topic selection.In addition,the development level and research trend of higher education provide reference for the topic selection.
