The teaching of concepts is embedded in all courses,including the history courses.At the junior high school level,the concepts play a significant role in the history lessons.Based on the basic historical facts,students form historical concepts and use them to solve related historical problems,so as to recognize historical features and reveal historical laws.Therefore,teaching the concepts is particularly important for historical teachers.With the change of teaching ideas under the curriculum reform,the teaching of historical concepts is no longer limited to the instillation of knowledge,but requires students to construct a system of knowledge independently.The goal of building the core literacy of the history discipline has pointed a new direction for the teaching of historical concepts.Under the background of curriculum reform,how to effectively carry out the teaching of concepts and promote the implementation of core literacy through teaching historical concepts has posed a challenge for teachers and thus become a question worth exploring.This paper begins by demonstrating how the teaching of historical concepts is integral to building the core literacy of the history discipline.The author holds that proposing the goal of building the core literacy provides theoretical guidance for the teaching of historical concepts and the formation of values,and clarifies the basis and way of thinking needed for students to form historical concepts.Then the present situation of historical concepts teaching is analyzed from four aspects,namely the curriculum standards,textbooks,teachers and students.Under such framework,suggestions of historical concepts teaching are put forward mainly based on the theory of meaningful verbal learning,the idea of new curriculum and the characteristics of history teaching.The case analysis includes key lessons such as “the politics of Northern Wei and the ethnic integration in North China”,“exploring a new route”,“the Qin dynasty unified China” and describes how to use the teaching of historical concepts to promote the building of the core literacy.Through research and analysis,the thesis finds that the theoretical function of the historical concepts is in alignment with the three dimensions of the core literacy: correct values,essential qualities and key competencies.The purpose of this study is to give suitable and practical suggestions to improve the effectiveness of historical concepts teaching in junior high schools,enhance the quality of historical lessons and the thinking skills of students,and finally achieve the goal of cultivating and building the historical core literacy of students.
