Practical Research On The Application Of The KWL Model To Cultivate Scientific Thinking Of High School Students ——Take The “Steady State And Environment” Module As An Example

The Biology Curriculum Standard for General High Schools(2017 Edition,2020Revision)requires to cultivate students' core literacy of biology from four aspects: life concept,scientific thinking,scientific exploration and social responsibility.Scientific thinking is very important for students to explore and explain life phenomena and laws,examine or demonstrate biological and social issues based on biological facts and evidence.The KWL(Know-Want-Learned)model,with the help of KWL chart,is conducive to students' active construction of knowledge and development of thinking ability.It is a new attempt to cultivate students' scientific thinking.The survey conducted on the training status of scientific thinking of biology teachers and students in the internship school through interview and questionnaire survey.After that,the biology teaching practice of KWL model was carried out.Through the educational experimental research method,this paper analyzed and investigated the effectiveness of KWL model in cultivating high school students' scientific thinking.The main results were as follows:(1)Investigation on the status quo of scientific thinking training in high school biology teachingIn the interview with five biology teachers in grade two of Xinyang senior high school,it was found that five teachers had a deeper understanding of scientific thinking with the release of the new biology curriculum standards.The teachers affirmed the importance of scientific thinking for students to learn biology and would use various strategies to cultivate students' scientific thinking in teaching,but some of the four teachers ignored the cultivation of students' creative thinking and critical thinking.In addition,four teachers had some difficulties in objective and subjective aspects in the process of cultivating students' scientific thinking.After a questionnaire survey of 267 senior two students,it was found that the students in senior two had a good overall situation of scientific thinking after a year of biology study(3.24 points).The five dimensions of students' scientific thinking from high to low were:deduction and reasoning(3.75 points),induction and generalization(3.71 points),model and modeling(3.36 points),critical thinking(2.76 points)and creative thinking(2.63points).Among them,the scores of the first three dimensions exceeded the average score,and the situation were good;The scores of the latter two dimensions were low and the performance was poor.Students lacked the ability to use scientific thinking to solve biological problems critically and creatively.(2)Practice of KWL model in biology teachingThe experimental class was taught in KWL model,while the control class was taught in general model.Through the sorting,statistics and analysis of pre-test and post-test data,it was found that for the two classes,which were close to each other before,improved after a semester of different modes of biology teaching.The experimental class made significant progress in induction and generalization,model and modeling,critical thinking and creative thinking,while the control class improved in model and modeling.However,the experimental classes taught by the KWL model performed significantly better than the control classes in terms of induction and generalization,model and modeling,and critical thinking(P<0.05).Moreover,the scientific thinking of the students in this class was significantly better than that of the students in the control class(P<0.05).And the students' grades were slightly higher and their class performance was better.Compared with the conventional teaching mode,the teaching of KWL model was more helpful to cultivate students' scientific thinking.This study found that it was feasible and effective to apply KWL model to biology teaching in senior high school,which is conducive to the improvement of students' scientific thinking.It can promote students' induction and generalization,model and modeling,and critical thinking,and can help students learn biology better.The practical research of KWL mode enriches the research on the cultivation strategy of scientific thinking,verifies the effectiveness of KWL in cultivating high school students' scientific thinking,and puts forward teaching suggestions,so as to provide reference for future teaching research.However,more research is still needed to verify whether the same teaching model can produce the same teaching effect for different teaching contents and different students.
