The ability to identify, formulate, analyze and solve problems is the "Four Abilities",Problem oriented development of students' Four Abilities can make students pay attention to the situational, whole process and exploratory nature of problem solving, and promote students to learn mathematical thinking.Problem-driven teaching stimulates students' interest and motivation through effective design, investigation and problem solving, and experiments show that it can effectively promote the development of the Four Abilities. This study takes the concept and properties of functions as an example, and applies problem-driven teaching to develop students' Four Abilities in two classes of senior students in a school.First,in order to reflect the students' Four Abilities level,we carefully designed the Four Abilities pre-test and post-test papers;second,we used these two papers to give pre-tests to students in two sophomore classes, and according to the results,we fine-tuned them to get the final test papers;third,we used the pre-test papers to give tests to the first-year students in two classes to understand their current Four Abilities level.Fourth, after 10 sessions of quasi-experimental research, the two classes were tested with the post-test paper to verify the effectiveness of problem-driven teaching in developing students' Four Abilities.Based on the survey research method and quasi-experimental study of the Four Abilities, the findings of the study for Dimension 1 "Ability to identify and formulate problems" and Dimension 2 "Ability to analyze and solve problems" are(1)The total score of the pre-test answer is 20,and the average score is only 10.4,of which the scores of dimension 1 and 2 are 10,the average score of dimension 1 is 4.89,and the average score of dimension 2 is 5.51.Students' performance in dimension 1 and 2 is relatively weak,so it is concluded that the current situation of students' four abilities is not optimistic.(2)Based on the post-test answer sheet, the total performance of the experimental class improved by 34.56%,which was reflected in the improvement of 39.21% in Dimension 1 and30.27% in Dimension 2,and all four aspects of problem-driven teaching could improve the Four Abilities. The effect of problem-driven teaching on the improvement of first-year students' Four Abilities" was significant.
