Image representation is one of the important forms of physical representation,which can help students understand physical concepts and develop scientific thinking.In recent years,the curriculum standards have put forward higher requirements for the mastery of images,and the examination of images in the college entrance examination has also been paid more and more attention.Therefore,it is necessary to investigate the current situation of high school students' image representation ability and formulate corresponding teaching strategies.This research constructs the theoretical framework of physical image representation ability,and divides image representation into three levels: image reading ability,image composition ability,and image use ability.Based on this,a test paper of kinematic function image representation ability with good reliability and validity was compiled,and tested on 224 high school students.According to the test results,the ability level of high school students in each dimension of image representation was explored,and the influence of factors such as gender and mathematics achievement on high school students' image representation ability was analyzed.The study reached the following conclusions:First,the overall performance of high school students in image representation is average,and the ability to compose and use images is at a poor level.Students cannot combine image information with physical situations well to help solve physical problems.Second,the main problems of students in image representation are: in reading ability,there is a misunderstanding of the physical meaning of line,slope,and area elements;in composition ability,they extract relevant information and construct physical pictures according to text materials.Insufficient ability leads to inaccurate composition;in terms of ability to use pictures,traditional practice exercises lead to a negative mindset,weak awareness of drawing and thinking in the process of problem solving,and insufficient ability to use images to analyze physical processes.To this end,this paper puts forward three suggestions for high school physics image teaching: first,to cultivate students' awareness of image representation;second,to dig deep into the physical meaning of images;third,to pay attention to the process of image construction.It is expected that it can really help students develop image representation awareness and improve image representation ability.
