Research On Stig Hjarvard’s Thoughts Of Mediatization

As a leading European scholar in the study of "mediatization",Stig Hjarvard ’s thoughts of mediatization from the perspective of institutionalism have developed a school of their own in media studies,and their thoughts have an important turning significance for communication studies.This paper combs the background and theoretical origin of Stig Hjarvard ’s mediatization thought,holds that his mediatization thought mainly comes from the multidisciplinary theories such as structuralization theory,new institutionalism and field theory,and analyzes the correlation between mediatization research and media theory.This paper "slices" Stig Hjarvard ’s thoughts of mediatization into three levels to make a dynamic analysis of his main ideas and the evolution of his thoughts.On the macroscopic level of his thoughts,he has realized the shift from "mediation" to "mediatization".He regards "mediatization" as a "sensitive concept" in the process of high modernity,and is committed to developing it as a middle level theory in order to construct a theoretical understanding of the interaction between "diaphanizing" media and social and cultural process.In the medium view selection level,the spread of Stig Hjarvard ’s thoughts of mediatization adopts the path of institutional analysis,Hjarvard empowers the concept of "media logic" to analyze the increasing influence of the media,and on this basis,introduces and develops the concept of "system logic" to explore three ways of overlapping media between different institutional logic,the overlapping and fusion is contributed to the social and cultural changes.At the specific level of media logic influence,Hjarvard puts forward the view that "dual logic dominates contemporary media",summarizes the dual characteristics of media as semi-independent institutions in exerting influence,and holds that the degree of mediatization can be measured by the reduction of self-discipline in each institutional field.Hjarvard ’s thought of mediatization has important theoretical and practical significance.In theory,it further improves the institutional tradition of mediatization research,includes the practice of human interaction under the influence of media into the scope of investigation,expands and innovates the media theory research,and promotes the construction of the subjectivity of the communication discipline.In terms of practical significance,his thoughts are helpful to inspire the re-thinking of the deep integration of media and the re-understanding of the media-based existence of human beings.At the same time,they also have a strong reference significance for the study of the media-based process in China.In addition,this paper makes a preliminary discussion on the limitations of Hjarvard ’s media-oriented thoughts,such as exaggerating the effectiveness of media logic and ignoring the social impact of non-institutionalized media.In short,we should use a dialectical view of Stig Hjarvard ’s thoughts of mediatization.
