| Since the reform and opening up,China can quickly become the second largest economy in the world, which is inseparable from the rapid development of manufacturing industry. However,it is accompanied by the growing domestic environmental problems and energy consumption, and the double pressure of dispersing medium and low-end manufacturing to developing countries and returning high-end industries to developed countries. In order to alleviate the contradiction between economic growth and the environment and improve energy efficiency, the manufacturing industry,as the source of major pollutants, urgently needs to accelerate the transformation to "green",reduce the emission of harmful gases and improve people’s living conditions. In order to implement the new development concept, the government has taken corresponding environmental measures.Environmental regulation,as an important means to solve environmental problems, can effectively help the economy achieve greening. The main purpose of this chapter is to study how China’s implementation of strict environmental regulation has a negative impact on the improvement of green total factor productivity in manufacturing industry, and where the intensity of strict environmental regulation can maximize the improvement of green total factor productivity.Firstly, based on the systematic study of the contents of previous academic papers, the author of this chapter summarizes the level of environmental protection legal regulation to be studied in this chapter and the total factor productivity theory of green economy,so as to form the basic theoretical framework of this chapter, and analyzes the impact path and mechanism between them in detail,so as to give the basic assumptions of this chapter. Then, the author calculates the environmental protection legal regulation intensity level of the industry to be studied in this chapter using the entropy method, calculates the green total factor productivity from 2003 to2018 through DEA software, and compares and analyzes the industry gtfp horizontally and vertically.Thirdly, taking 480 sample data from 2003 to 2018 as samples, the panel threshold estimation model is used to study the impact relationship between them, and test the accuracy and credibility of the empirical results. Then, the intermediary variables are brought into the model to test the role of factor structure between environmental regulation and green total factor productivity, and the robustness of the results is tested. Finally, according to the results, the corresponding suggestions are put forward for the improvement of green total factor productivity of China’s manufacturing industry under environmental regulation. |
