China’s high-speed railway network is one of the most important transportation infrastructures in contemporary China, with its large passenger flow, mature technology and long running mileage, etc.During the decade of 2012-2022,China’s high-speed railway network of "four horizontal and four vertical" has been fully completed, and"eight horizontal and eight vertical The "eight horizontal and eight vertical" high-speed rail network has been formed, which strongly supports major national strategies. As an important transportation tool in China, the completion of high-speed railroad network has led to the construction of infrastructure along the high-speed railway lines and promoted the economic connection of the "first-line areas" of high-speed railway. Therefore,a scientific and quantitative analysis of the network distribution characteristics of HSR and its impact on urban economic growth is crucial to the development of China’s economy. This study is based on the distribution characteristics of China’s high-speed rail "structural holes" and their spatial spillover effects on economic growth.Firstly, the social network analysis method is used to measure the density and correlation of China’s high-speed rail network, and analyze the overall network distribution and construction of high-speed rail networks in four major regions in China. At the same time, the structural location characteristics of each regional HSR network in China are analyzed by using social network analysis to grasp the relative network location distribution of individuals in China’s HSR network.Secondly, the "structural hole" index is constructed to quantitatively analyze the effective scale, efficiency, restriction system, and hierarchy of high-speed rail in 270 prefecture-level cities,in order to explore the radiating influence of high-speed rail node cities on other cities in the network and the control power of the overall network structure. Finally, based on the measurement results of China’s HSR "structural hole" index,a two-way fixed-effect SDM model of China’s HSR "structural hole" on urban economic growth is established to analyze the impact of China’s HSR network "structural hole" on urban economic growth. The SDM model was developed to analyze the impact of China’s high-speed rail network "structural hole" on urban economic growth. In order to further investigate the spatial spillover effect of high-speed rail network "structural hole" on regional economic growth, the two-way fixed-effect SDM model is decomposed to analyze the spatial effects of production factors and high-speed rail network "structural hole" factors on regional economic growth. The direct, indirect and total effects of the factors of production and the "structural hole" of the high-speed rail network on the regional economic growth are analyzed.Through the empirical analysis, this paper obtains the following conclusions:(1)With the completion of the high-speed railway network "eight horizontal and eight vertical",the circulation of production factors and information between cities is accelerated, and the balanced development between cities is gradually realized.(2)Urban economic growth has a significant spatial spillover effect in space.(3)The "structural hole" of high-speed railway has an obvious positive promotion effect on economic growth.(4)Scientific and technological progress and industrial structure upgrading and transformation can effectively promote regional economic growth. In view of the findings of the study, the following suggestions are made to effectively promote economic growth:(1)Accelerate the extension and completion of the "eight horizontal and eight vertical" layout of high-speed rail network to promote the coordinated development of regional economy.(2)Give full play to the role of the "structural hole" of high-speed rail as an occupier node to drive the coordinated development of the regional economy.(3)To lead innovation-driven development by science and technology and build an innovative society.(4)Accelerate the optimization of industrial structure and realize the interaction between industrial upgrading and economic growth.
