As a major food production province in China, ensuring stable growth in food production is crucial for China’s food security.Under the development model of extensive food production,Anhui Province mainly relies on resource consumption and input of intermediate factors to promote the increase of food production. However, with the continuous intensification of carbon emissions and non-point source pollution caused by labor outflow, natural resources reaching the upper limit, excessive investment of intermediate factors such as fertilizers and pesticides in food production in Anhui Province,it seriously restricts the sustainable development of food production in Anhui Province. The traditional evaluation of food production efficiency only considers the relationship between input and economic output, without considering the impact on the ecological environment, resulting in a biased evaluation result that cannot scientifically and accurately evaluate the true level of food production. Therefore, this article further improves the efficiency evaluation index system, evaluates the ecological efficiency of food production in Anhui Province and analyzes the influencing factors, providing a feasible path for improving the sustainable development of food production in Anhui Province.Based on the above analysis, firstly, this article uses the super efficiency SBM model and the超效率BCC model to calculate the ecological efficiency of food production and the traditional food production efficiency in Anhui Province, and analyzes their temporal evolution characteristics; On this basis, further explore its dynamic characteristics and reasons for efficiency loss; Finally,a bidirectional fixed effect model was used to explore the impact of external factors on the ecological efficiency of food production in Anhui Province.Based on the above research, the following conclusions are drawn in this article:(1)During the research period, the average ecological efficiency of food production in Anhui Province showed an overall fluctuating upward trend, but there was a significant gap between traditional food production efficiency and ecological efficiency of food production.(2)The average difference in ecological efficiency of food production in the three major regions is gradually narrowing;Overall, the average ecological efficiency of food production in the central Anhui region of Anhui Province is higher than that in the northern and southern Anhui regions;(3)From 2003 to 2021,the average efficiency of all cities in Anhui Province decreased after considering non expected output;(4)From 2003 to 2021,the standard deviation and coefficient of variation of the ecological efficiency of food production in Anhui Province showed a fluctuating downward trend, with cities gradually evolving from relatively low to medium efficiency groups to medium to high efficiency groups;(5)The redundancy of food input and unexpected output in various cities is the main reason for the loss of ecological efficiency in food production in Anhui Province;(6)The irrigation rate of food fields, investment in agricultural research, and financial support for agriculture have a positive effect on the ecological efficiency of food production; The income level and urbanization level of rural residents have negative effects on the ecological efficiency of food production.Based on the above research, suggestions are proposed:(1)improving the structure of input factors and promoting the ecological development of food production;(2)Strengthen regional exchanges and collaboration;(3)Promote the construction of high standard farmland and accelerate the promotion and research and development of food production technologies.
