| In September 2020,at the 75th United Nations General Assembly,President Xi Jinping proposed that "China’s strive to achieve a peak in carbon dioxide emissions before 2030,and strive to achieve the grand goal of carbon neutrality before 2060".This is China’s determination,which is shown to the world as a responsible major country,to adhere to the path of green,low-carbon and sustainable development.In this context,it will be very important to ensure stable economic development and reduce carbon emissions.Carbon productivity represents the economic benefits produced by unit carbon emissions,and is an important bridge between economic growth and carbon emission reduction.Technological innovation is the core driving force to improve carbon productivity,and intellectual property protection system is an important institutional guarantee to stimulate technological innovation.Therefore,this paper chooses the impact of intellectual property protection on my country’s carbon productivity as the starting point of the study.This paper focuses on the following issues:Can strengthening intellectual property protection significantly promote the improvement of carbon productivity?How does intellectual property protection affect carbon productivity?Is there heterogeneity in the impact of intellectual property protection on carbon productivity?Based on the panel data of 30 provinces and cities in China during 2003-2018,this paper discusses the theory and method of panel data model,and uses a variety of panel data models to examine the impact of intellectual property protection on China’s carbon productivity,and further uses the mediation effect model to study the impact mechanism of intellectual property protection on China’s carbon productivity,and draws the following conclusions:(1)Intellectual property protection plays a significant role in promoting carbon productivity.At the same time,after a series of robust tests,the conclusion is still valid.(2)The analysis of the panel intermediary effect model shows that the intermediary effect of intellectual property protection on carbon productivity is different under the difference of technological innovation types.(3)Intellectual property protection has an heterogeneous effect on carbon productivity.The impact of intellectual property protection on carbon productivity in the Eastern,Central and Western regions is significantly positive,and the promotion effect in the former is more prominent.The panel quantile model regression shows that intellectual property protection has a positive impact on carbon productivity under different carbon productivity levels.At the same time,with the improvement of carbon productivity levels,the role of intellectual property protection on carbon productivity has generally declined.Based on the results of empirical analysis,in order to better play the role of intellectual property protection in promoting carbon productivity,this paper puts forward relevant targeted policy suggestions. |
