| In order to comprehend the development and export advantages of Brazilian mineral resources in the trade with China,this thesis conduct analysis on the market share,trade scale and trade structure of all important mineral products in Chapter 26 of the HS System.Comparative advantage and trade complementarity indexes are employed for the analysis.The results show that Brazilian iron,aluminum ore,and ferro-niobium possess strong trade advantages and significant development potential.Furthermore,it is conducted an empirical analysis study with support of Mediation Analysis,using Stochastic Frontier Analysis(SFA)to estimate the export efficiency and potential of Brazilian mineral products to China;and to delineate and analyze the “behindthe-border” constraints,that influences Brazil mineral resources exports to China.The SFA Method is divided in two models,Stochastic Frontier Gravity(SFG)model and Technical Efficiency(TE)model.The research results of the SFG time-varying model indicate that the GDP and population of Brazil and other mineral-supplying countries play an important role in the ore export trade to China.As the GDP and population of ore exporter countries grow,the mineral export to China tends to decrease.The analysis results of the TE model show that resource endowment,foreign direct investment,and trade agreements play a significant role in the growth of the mineral export trade to China.Additionally,the mediation effects analysis reveals that currency exchange indirectly impacts the exports of ore products to China.The estimates of the mineral export potential of Brazil and other mineralsupplying countries showed that the export potential of mineral resources is mainly linked to the volume of exports and the volume of mineral resources of the countries.The export potential analysis demonstrates that Brazil has tremendous trade potential in mineral exports to China,with high export efficiency,second only to Australia.However,there is a significant room for improvement in Brazil’s mineral products export potential,that overcomes the Australian upgrade potential.Based on the above research results,the present thesis put forward four policy suggestions to strengthen the cooperation in mineral export trade between Brazil and China: Brazil needs to utilize its resource endowment to produce high-value-added products to enhance its participation in the production process;invest in improving domestic infrastructure and promote the interconnectivity of Latin American countries;advance the establishment of a free trade zone between Brazil and China,as well as among members of Mercosul;and promote trade and investment agreements between Brazil and China based on local currencies. |
