The coordinated development of urban traffic and urban land has always been a research focus of economists, urban planners and traffic planners at home and abroad. Most of the existing researches qualitatively analyze the interactive evolution mechanism of urban traffic and urban land use from the theoretical level, but few researches explore the change of their characteristic quantity and the relationship between them.So based on the urban leading transportation speed and scale of urban land as the research Angle of view,in a typical urban transportation and urban land with long span, which based on the data source, evolution of traffic development and the development rule of urban land both feature and mutual relations, deepening the reform of urban land transportation scale effect, promote the coordinated development of urban transportation and urban land. This paper through the method of combining the quantitative and qualitative analysis to study the dominant mechanism of the evolution of the transportation, found in the early new transportation can be accepted by the general public become the dominant mode of transport,to a large extent influenced by price factors, improve the city’s leading transportation speed a key factor in the evolution of the mode of transport;Secondly, based on the identification principles and practical research of urban built-up area boundaries at home and abroad, the urban land scale radius extraction method based on remote sensing image technology and ArcGIS technology is determined. Finally, taking London as an example, the data of the speed of the city’s dominant mode of transport and the radius of land use in 10 years from 1643 to2018 are extracted.By analyzing the change relationship and trend of the data itself, the Logistic growth curve model is used to reveal the phased evolution law of the speed of the city’s dominant mode of transport and the scale of land use.The results show that:1)The relationship between the speed of urban dominant transportation mode and the radius of land use scale presents an S-shaped curve. In the early stage, the speed of the urban dominant transportation mode and the radius of urban land use both grow slowly. The development period is the period in which the speed and the radius of land use scale of the city’s dominant mode of transportation increase rapidly. In the dynamic equilibrium period, the speed still keeps increasing, but the radius of urban land scale is relatively stable.2)The speed change brought by the traffic technological innovation has a very important supporting role for the expansion of urban land.In the process of urban planning and traffic planning,we should make full use of the phased evolution characteristics of their correlation to coordinate the development of urban traffic and urban land.In the initial stage and development stage, the "extension" development of urban land scale can be promoted by increasing the speed. In the third stage, measures such as improving the urban internal traffic structure can promote the "filling" development of urban land scale, make intensive use of existing urban resources and technologies, and give full play to social and economic benefits.
