The Yellow River is the second largest river in my country with a long history and a long history. It is one of the important birthplaces of Chinese civilization. In all dynasties, the river system has been one of the indispensable conditions for the origin and development of the city. With the improvement of the basic data of the historical cities in the study area,a more in-depth study will be carried out.In this paper, the four city administrative districts along the Yellow River in Inner Mongolia are the research scope, namely Hohhot City,Baotou City,Ordos City and Bayannaoer City.Within the research scope, there are a total of 298 historical cities from the Warring States Period to the Qing Dynasty. This paper selects the(23 rivers and 2 lakes)and 144 cities were used as the research objects to explore the spatial relationship between river systems and cities in various periods along the Yellow River in Inner Mongolia,as well as the influence of river systems on the development of urban space, and to summarize the characteristics and laws of the evolution of the urban space around river systems.First of all,the distribution of river systems in different periods in Inner Mongolia along the Yellow River is sorted out,and the river systems are divided into three levels. These include: 1 first-class river,2 first-class lakes,12 second-class rivers, and 10 third-class rivers.Summarize the general situation of the cities around the river in different periods.Secondly, the time range is divided into four stages: the Warring States Period, the Qin and Han Dynasties, the Sui and Tang Dynasties, the Jin and Yuan Dynasties, and the Ming and Qing Dynasties. From the five aspects of the regional natural environment, the administrative system, the political and military, the population economy, and the water transportation and transportation,it explores the influence of the regional cities construction factor. Then, through the description of the city and the river system in historical materials of each period, the correlation between the city and the river system is analyzed, and the spatial relationship between the river system and the distribution of the city is constructed from the regional level as a whole; The characteristics of the spatial distribution of urban pools under the influence of river systems in different periods. Finally, this paper summarizes the changes in the influence of river systems along the Yellow River in Inner Mongolia on the spatial development of historical cities, and explores the law of spatial development and evolution of cities around the river system. In summary, the conclusions of this study are as follows:(1)In the process of origin, development and change of historical cities, they were all affected by river systems to varying degrees, and showed obvious near water.(2)The influence range of the water system along the Yellow River in Inner Mongolia on the spatial distribution of urban pools is limited to 10 km.Different levels of river systems have different influences on the spatial distribution of urban pools.(3)Rivers and water systems in different periods have different impacts on the spatial development pattern of cities.During the Warring States Period,Qin and Han Dynasties, the regional city pools combined with river water systems gradually showed a belt-like distribution.Linear distribution.(4)Throughout the historical period of city construction and development, river systems play the roles of production, living, transportation, and defense, respectively.Because the research area belongs to the frontier defense zone and is significantly affected by military factors, the development of the relationship between urban water and water is important.Mainly reflects a strong defensive role in defense.(5)The overall development trend in the historical period: the urban water space along the first-class river system is the most defensive. When the study area is in the frontier defense zone of the dynasty, the defensiveness of the city water space is enhanced, and the proportion of city construction along the river increases;when the study area is not in the frontier defense zone of the dynasty, the defensiveness of the city water space decreases, and the city construction along the river increases ratio decreased.By studying the changes in the influencing factors of river systems on the construction and development of cities, summarizing the laws of development and evolution of cities along the line, better understand the development characteristics of cities in the ancient frontier areas, and provide historical reference for the future development of cities along the Yellow River. The importance of protection provides a historical basis, and has important practical value for enriching and promoting the traditional culture of the Yellow River Basin.
