| In China, the aging problem is becoming increasingly serious,so the incidence of stroke is rising. And its high disability rate seriously affects the quality of life of patients.Effective rehabilitation training and using mobility assistive devices can help older patients with stroke to recover and return to society, but the current designs of mobility assistive devices on the market cannot meet the demand of the old with stroke. This study introduces the compensatory mechanism to identify the deficiencies in-home rehabilitation and life of older people with stroke, and to support them through appropriate compensatory pathways, using mobility assistive devices as a vehicle to help them improve their rehabilitation outcomes and quality of life at home.Firstly, this paper analyses and presents the research background and theories about the topic through literature research and comparative analysis to provide theoretical support for the subsequent research.Through the concept of compensatory mechanism and the functions of mobility assistive devices, the paper outlines the demand discovery and compensatory design of compensatory mechanism based on defect-compensation and introduces the superiority diagram method to improve the design method based on compensatory mechanism.By analyzing the old patients with stroke and the mobility aids commonly used by them,it concludes that there is a lack of design opportunities for mobility aids for older people with stroke in the overall rehabilitation phase.Secondly, the user behavior observation method and interview method were adopted to deeply explore the operational defects in the daily life and rehabilitation of the elderly with stroke in-home care, and the defect compensation path expected by the users, which are verified by questionnaire. Then the paper combines the doctor interview results to output the target user portrait and ideal user situation, and find the users ’ pain points and design opportunity points. And then the combination with the characteristics of the elderly with stroke, the needs of the elderly in the two phases of recovery and rehabilitation were at four levels: life support, rehabilitation training, psychological support and product features, and their priorities were compiled. Finally, combining the theoretical research and the results of the users’ studies, the author translates the users’ product characteristics into design principles and matches the users’ needs in the three areas of life support, rehabilitation training and psychological support with suitable compensatory paths, generating a product design strategy to guide the specific design practice. In the design practice part,a product system is formed with a mobility aid product for stroke elderly people as the carrier and a multi-user collaborative caregiver app as the support. The design is also evaluated using software simulation and usability testing, and the usability of the product system is comprehensively assessed. This project validates the theoretical approach of compensatory mechanisms in the design of mobility aids for the elderly, integrates the knowledge of different disciplines such as superiority chart and rehabilitation medicine to enrich the design ideas of the compensatory mechanism, and finally forms a product design model of mobility aids based on the compensatory mechanism and superiority chart. This study explores the needs of the elderly with stroke in the home care scenario based on the ideas and methods of the design model. The design of mobility aid for the elderly with stroke is optimized to contribute to the design research of home rehabilitation for the elderly with stroke. |
