Research On The Decorative Patterns Of Traditional Residential Buildings In Central Hunan Province

Traditional residential buildings are indigenous to the region.The decorative patterns in residential buildings contain deep cultural connotations and are the materialized products of people’s long-term production,life,and faith.The traditional folk decorative patterns have been inherited and innovated in the historical development,reflecting their colorful characteristics.This paper focuses on the decorative patterns of traditional residential buildings in central Hunan Province,mainly including Loudi,Shaoyang and parts of Yiyang,Changsha and Xiangtan.Most of the existing traditional residential buildings in the region were built in the Ming and Qing dynasties,and the building materials are mostly brick,stone,adobe and wood,etc.The decoration techniques are mainly brick,wood,stone and color painting,and the main themes are animals,people,plants and natural landscapes.In the process of research,the author appropriately extends the discussion of decorative patterns to image patterns,craft materials,etc.The study of patterns is placed in the architectural decorative art system,and patterns,motifs and paintings are all included in the study.By examining,recording and drawing the existing patterns in traditional residential buildings in central Hunan,and combining the unique natural and humanistic background of central Hunan,the author systematically analyzes the traditional residential architectural decorative patterns,explores the regional and cultural connotation.According to the appearance of patterns on the carrier of residential buildings,they will be divided into flat patterns,semi-stereoscopic patterns and three-dimensional patterns.Among them,the flat patterns are common in pillar head,eaves,girder,ceiling caisson and other decorative parts;semi-stereoscopic patterns are common in the wall,lintel,girder,stone pillar base,threshold,windows,partitions and other decorative parts;three-dimensional patterns are common in the ridge,sparrow brace,pillars and other decorative parts.Through figuration,abstraction,simplification,deconstruction,reorganization,stylization and other expression techniques,individual patterns,continuous patterns and suitable patterns are organized.The author selects representative decorative patterns as the main object of discussion,summarize the common types of patterns in traditional residential architecture in central Hunan,collate the patterns of birds and auspicious beast,plant patterns,geometric patterns,text patterns,utensil and object patterns,character and story patterns,landscape and scenery patterns,etc.The study explores the craftsmanship,cultural connotations,and aesthetic values of the decorative patterns of traditional residential buildings in the central Hunan area.Based on the above work,the author tries to explore the design strategies of traditional decorative patterns,and apply them to specific design practices,deepen the understanding and feeling of traditional residential architectural decorative patterns in the central Hunan area in practice,and provide theoretical and practical basis for the protection and inheritance of patterns.
