Contract control and trust are seen as important governance mechanisms that affect project performance,however,the existing research mainly focused on solving the problem of organizational transaction relationship between owner and contractor,In the life cycle engineering consulting project,the professional service transaction relationship between the owner and the consultant occupies a very important position in the project organization,but what governance mechanism is more effective between the two has not been verified yet.In particular,there are some characteristics in professional service transaction,such as the joint production of the owner and the consultant,service intangibility and customization,which will affect the level of cross organizational cooperation between the owner and the consultant.In view of this,it is necessary to explore the influence of contract control and trust governance mechanism on the performance of life cycle engineering consulting project under different life cycle engineering consulting situations.Based on the perspective of project governance,this paper reviews the research on contract governance and relationship governance,and defines contract control and trust before the contract is concluded.At the same time,contextual variables of life cycle engineering consulting: task complexity,task dependence and ambiguity of quality performance are used as moderating variables of the influence of contract control/trust on the performance of life cycle engineering consulting project.The research hypothesis of the relationship among contract control,trust,performance of life cycle engineering consulting project,task complexity,task dependence and fuzzy quality performance is put forward,and the conceptual model of this study is constructed.In this study,a total of 195 valid questionnaires were obtained by sending questionnaires to Tianjin,Beijing and other regions and collecting data.Statistical analysis was carried out based on the data obtained from the questionnaire,including using SPSS Statistic 24.0 statistical software to analyze the reliability and validity of the latent variable measurement scale,using SEM-PLS empirical research method and Smart PLS 3.0 statistical analysis software to test the research hypothesis of this study and conduct data analysis.Through data analysis,the research results are as follows :(1)Both contract control and trust have a positive effect on the performance of life cycle engineering consulting project,and the effect of trust is higher than contract control;(2)Task complexity will weaken the effect of contract control on the performance of life cycle engineering consulting project;(3)Task dependence has a positive moderating effect on the relationship between trust and life cycle engineering consulting project performance.The greater task dependence is,the more trust can promote the life cycle engineering consulting project performance.(4)The ambiguity of quality performance has a negative moderating effect on trust and the performance of life cycle engineering consulting projects.The greater the ambiguity of quality performance,the weaker the promoting effect of trust on the performance of life cycle engineering consulting projects.This study uses structural equation modeling as an empirical research method,verifies the "governance mechanism-the life cycle engineering consulting project performance" the direct path,at the same time,verifies the "governance mechanism-project performance" the realization of the path is influenced by the life cycle engineering consulting service characteristics.Therefore,this study gets the following enlightenment: On the one hand,we should reasonably choose the strict degree of contract control according to the task complexity.On the other hand,when the task dependence is strong,more attention should be paid to the overall consideration of the consultant in the bidding stage to establish the initial trust,and with a more relaxed contract;when the quality performance is fuzzy,the important role of the owner’s trust in the consultant should not be overemphasized.The research results provide theoretical and practical significance for owners to choose appropriate trust and contract control strength for project governance according to specific life cycle engineering consulting projects.
