| The purpose of this study is to identify the dynamic fluctuations mechanism of goodwill trust and competence trust in engineering projects, and to explore whether international trust is asymmetric. On the basis of the existing research, the research questions are,respectively,1)What are the triggers of the dynamic fluctuation of international trust and the mechanism of dynamic fluctuation in engineering projects? And2)What causes trust between organizations to show asymmetry? Using the grounded theory research method, the study collected data from the owners, contractors and engineers of 6 construction projects in China and the contractors of 6 other projects through semi-structured interviews, and identified 10 trust triggers through open coding, axial coding and selection coding, which boils down to 4 categories: employee work status, project normal management, communication, and engineering conflict events. On this basis,it is concluded that the trigger factors need to experience three stages of event-cognitive change-trust fluctuation change,in which cognitive change includes ability reassessment, engineering attention and attention to difference cognitive change. In addition, this study verifies the existence of asymmetry of trust, and concludes that the sensitivity of engineering participants to the dynamic fluctuation factors of trust leads to the asymmetry of trust between organizations. This study adds insights into the dynamic fluctuation and asymmetry of trust between organizations, provides guidance to the project subject to maintain the inter-organizational relationship to a certain extent, and provides the possibility for engineering practitioners to reduce the decline of mutual trust level, which can help the project to be successfully implemented. |
