In today’s challenging economic situation,innovation has become an increasingly important determinant of organizations’ survival and development.Since employees can be seen as the cornerstone of organizational innovation,encouraging employees to be innovative and exhibit more innovative behaviors becomes an important option for organizations.Leadership is an important factor influencing employee innovation behavior.It is of great significance to explore the influence of leadership style on employee innovation behavior.Empowering leadership emphasizes the decentralization of rights and responsibilities,giving employees more work autonomy.Many scholars link empowering leadership with employees’ innovative behavior,but the exploration of the mediating and moderating mechanisms between the two is not perfect.Therefore,this study takes Chinese enterprise employees as a research sample to investigate the mediating mechanism and boundary conditions of empowering leadership to influence employees’ innovative behavior,in order to provide theoretical reference for enterprise practice.This research first systematically sorts out relevant literatures at home and abroad on empowering leadership,meaningful work,employee innovation behavior and job complexity,and expounds the connotation and related research of self-determination theory and job characteristics theory.Secondly,by introducing meaningful work as mediating variable and job complexity as moderating variable,this study intend to clarify the process mechanism and boundary conditions of empowering leadership’s effect on employees’ innovative behavior.Thirdly,this paper constructs a theoretical model of four study variables,and puts forward the research hypothesis of this paper combined with relevant theories.Time lagged data was obtained through a questionnaire survey to examine the impact of empowering leadership on employees’ innovative behavior.Fourth,the empirical analysis is carried out,and the validity analysis and common method deviation test are carried out on the variables using the software SPSS22.0 and Mplus 7.0,and the mediating effect and moderating effect are tested.Finally,discuss the research results,put forward corresponding management suggestions,and provide theoretical reference for enterprises to stimulate employees’ innovative behavior,which is of great significance to improve enterprise performance and improve the overall innovative behavior of society.Through empirical analysis,the following research conclusions are gained:(1)Empowering leadership has a positive impact on employees’ innovation behavior.(2)Meaningful work plays a mediating role in the relationship between empowering leadership and employees’ innovative behavior.(3)Job complexity positively moderates the relationship between empowering leadership and employees’ innovative behavior.(4)Job complexity positively moderates the relationship between meaningful work and employee innovation behavior.
