This article explores the design practice of household storage and display products based on the unconscious design theory and the Kano model.Firstly, the historical development of unconscious design is investigated from its origins. Then, the current status of unconscious design is studied, including the analysis of publications and methodologies by domestic and foreign scholars, and in-depth case studies and method applications of unconscious design.Secondly, through the use of observation and personal in-depth interviews, the unconscious behavior and potential needs of users for household storage and display products are explored. The observation method mainly studies the behavior between users and household products, exploring their unconscious behavior, experiential habits, and hidden needs. Then, typical cases in the observation method are selected for personal in-depth interviews to understand their basic information, daily habits, personal experience with use,and preferences for the design of storage and display household products.By organizing the information obtained from the observation and personal in-depth interview methods,32 initial items of requirements for the Kano questionnaire were obtained. After expert review and KJ method sorting, the initial requirements were classified into four dimensions:product functionality, product design, product culture, and product experience.A total of 21 sub-level requirements were listed in each dimension. In subsequent quantitative analysis, the Kano model was introduced to explore the results of the earlier qualitative analysis in depth, achieving the transformation from requirements to scientifically reasonable functions. This information provides important basis for subsequent research and supports data for design practice. In the output scheme of the design practice, the requirements for product design are matched with the unconscious design method.Three design paths were summarized, corresponding to the three unconscious design methods of "direct perceptual symbolization","collective unconscious symbolization",and "finding associations",clarifying the overall design concept.Afterward, design sketches were drawn to preliminarily determine the product form.Based on the design sketches, the product modeling, rendering, and adjustment were completed in the computer to achieve the deduction of product shape and function. Finally, seven product design schemes were proposed, including vertical tray hangers, cork earing storage display pieces, tray earring storage trays, tilted dry and wet clothes racks, landscape chopsticks storage boxes,"hand drum" salt shakers, and reversible vase display pieces.Relevant users were invited to evaluate the design schemes and investigate their satisfaction. The design evaluation results showed that six of the seven product schemes had a satisfaction score of 4 points or above, with the vertical tray hanger scoring the highest at 4.39 points, while the cork earing storage display piece had a lower score of 3.93 points.Overall, the design effect was good. From the evaluation of the four dimensions of the product, they all scored 4 points or above, with the product experience performing the best at 4.3 points, indicating that users are generally satisfied with the requirements of the four dimensions.
