In order to meet the requirements of the development of the times,education needs to undergo diversified changes and innovations.Data literacy is an important ability that adapts to the development of the times.Data literacy education should enter the classroom and become a required course for students before entering society.In view of this,this study focuses on science and engineering students,using multiple approaches such as literature research,survey research,and educational design research to conduct extensive and in-depth research on the methods for improving their data literacy.In the design of data literacy questionnaire,firstly,based on the relevant research of data literacy at home and abroad,the common indicators of data literacy evaluation are investigated;Then,combined with the analysis of the needs of science and engineering students for data literacy,an evaluation index system suitable for the improvement of science and engineering students’ data literacy is constructed,which specifically includes three dimensions and six elements.Finally,on the basis of reference to the existing data literacy questionnaire,combined with the constructed evaluation index system,a data literacy questionnaire for science and engineering students is compiled.In terms of project design to improve data literacy,firstly,we used a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods to systematically analyze the current situation of science and engineering students’ data literacy.Then,we designed a project to improve science and engineering students’ data literacy based on the characteristics of project-based learning and the real teaching environment of professional courses.In each project case,it is guided by real problems to inspire students how to build a knowledge system of data literacy,and then improve their own professional knowledge structure.In terms of project implementation to improve data literacy,we carried out iterative experiments with action research to promote cases,and used a variety of verification methods,including the actual operation of cases,comparison between the experimental group and the control group,comparison between the experimental group and the pre-test and post-test,to comprehensively test the improvement of data literacy.According to the completion and effect inspection of the first round of experiment,the design can actually improve the data literacy of science and engineering students to a certain extent.In order to ensure the objectivity of the experimental results and avoid accidental results,the details in the first round of experiments were slightly modified and applied to the second round of experiments.Through the comparison of the results of the two rounds of experiments,the effectiveness of the experimental research was revealed.The research results show that the research scheme designed in this paper has received good practical results in improving the data literacy ability of science and engineering students.In solving practical problems,students can obtain data according to needs,use data flexibly,make reasonable judgments based on data,and draw correct conclusions.To sum up,this research program can provide a new way for science and engineering students to improve their data literacy.
