The progress and evolution of the times continually propel the advancement of smart city construction.The demand for fast and efficient 3D city modeling technology is increasing in various fields such as gaming,film and television,driving simulation and training,urban planning management,military exercises,and virtual reality.Procedural modeling technology for cities is gaining momentum as a research hotspot,thanks to its ease of use,low modeling cost,and high efficiency.To address the current challenges of inflexibility and low development efficiency in virtual city modeling,efforts are underway to devise innovative solutions,this paper proposes a controllable random virtual city procedural generation method,which combines urban planning principles and a series of procedural generation methods to quickly and flexibly construct large-scale virtual city 3D scenes with reasonable patterns and high realism,and applies it to virtual navigation pathfinding systems.The paper will focus on the following specific areas:(1)An improved finite element mesh partitioning algorithm for road network generation is proposed.Firstly,the algorithm combines the finite element mesh partition with the frontpropagation method and fully considers quantifiable indicators,urban functional zoning,the properties of roads at all levels,as well as the distribution of urban boundaries and rivers based on the user’s setting of basic information about the city,to generate a random road network model mainly composed of quadrilateral meshes.Then,a series of optimizations are performed on the road network to better conform to realistic urban planning.Finally,the main and secondary roads are modeled to further improve the structure of the urban road network.Experimental results show that this algorithm can quickly and efficiently generate highquality urban road networks by combining the user-planned urban information.(2)Proposed a controllable stochastic city modeling method.Firstly,the city road network is generated based on user-input information,determining the relevant elements of the city to achieve overall controllability.Secondly,combining the user-drawn functional zoning data map,a building random generation method based on functional zoning is utilized to generate buildings within each area of the city.Experimental results demonstrate that this method produces cities that possess both style randomness and maintain the rationality of functional zoning.(3)Designed and developed a virtual navigation system based on virtual reality technology.This system is built upon virtual city scenes and utilizes global best path planning algorithms and various navigation interaction features to realize path planning and navigation services to the target area,providing users with a comprehensive navigation experience.This system is suitable for various forms of large-scale virtual cities,offering a high level of realism and immersion,and can meet users’ navigation needs.
