Hospital environment design is directly related to patient safety, and a poor hospital environment can have a direct negative impact on medical outcomes and even threaten patient safety. At the same time, the neglect of the behavior and spatial needs of the attendants reduces the quality of the hospital environment on the one hand, and causes considerable energy waste on the other. Some data show that the energy consumption of hospitals is 1.6-2 times higher than that of ordinary public buildings. In this context, this study takes the waiting space of large general hospitals as the entry point, and firstly selects a representative large tertiary general hospital for case study, and obtains tens of thousands of preliminary data of the waiting space through a combination of field research, interview survey and video data mining. At the macro level,we quantitatively describe and analyze the dynamic characteristics of the waiting crowd in four dimensions: flow, density, spatial and temporal distribution, and activity type.At the micro level,we explore the environment-driven and psychologically-driven waiting behavior and summarize the demands of the waiting environment. And the corresponding design strategies are proposed for the problems reflected by the two dimensions respectively. On this basis, the indoor thermal environment of the waiting space is simulated according to the occupancy characteristics of the waiting space, combined with the numerical simulation technology of computational fluid dynamics(CFD),and the application performance of four types of airflow organization forms and three ventilation control schemes in the waiting space are explored respectively to achieve the optimization of the indoor thermal environment of the waiting space and to achieve the purpose of promoting patient safety and energy saving and consumption reduction. This master’s thesis integrates the theories and methods related to architecture, environmental behavior, building physics,HVAC and other disciplines, and is dedicated to the improvement of the quality of hospital environmental space, with evidence-based design, and an in-depth investigation into the relationship between human behavior, medical environment and patient safety.Based on the origin of architecture,we are committed to exploring the intersection of architecture and other professions.
