The damage of glass curtain walls of urban high-rise buildings could be categorized into two kinds, the wind pressure damage caused by excessive pressure and the impact damage caused by upstream windborne debris.ELES method will be adopted to study the above two problems.ELES is a simulation method combined Reynolds-averaged Navier–Stokes(RANS)models and large eddy simulation(LES)models by adopting appropriate interface conditions.ELES is mainly used for single building case in urban wind pressure simulation. However, when ELES method is adopted to simulate the buildings group, the distance between buildings will limit the location of the interface, that the location of the interface should consider the influence of wake effect and recircle effect.Besides,ELES has not been applied for urban windborne debris simulation. This paper is aiming at exploring the ELES simulation on wind pressure and windborne debris.Firstly, the ELES simulation on the wind pressure of urban high-rise buildings was studied. In the beginning,by comparing the vortex structure and streamlines of single building case and two buildings case with theory guided results, the ability of ELES method on capture vortex structure and streamlines has been qualitatively proved. Then,by comparing the wind pressure simulation values of single building case and two buildings case with the results given by experiments, the ability of ELES method on accurately calculate wind pressure on building surfaces has been quantitatively proved. The achieved optimal settings in aforementioned cases were adopted in the building group case.In the building group case, the accuracy and efficiency of ELES on building group simulation were explored by comparing the results given by LES method. The results showed that the optimal settings on single building or two buildings case also performed well on building group case. The mesh was reduced by more than 56% and the calculation time was reduced by more than 20%.Secondly,the ELES simulation on the motion of three-dimensional windborne debris was studied.First of all,a single windborne debris case was simulated to prove the ability of ELES on the simulating the accurate motion of windborne debris by comparing the results given by quasi-steady theory and experiments.Secondly,a building with debris was simulated by ELES method to explore the accuracy of ELES by comparing the results with that of LES.The results showed that the optimal settings also performed well on the simulation of building with debris case. The impact points given by ELES and LES were identical and the relative error of the impact velocity was 12%.
