Research On The Interior Design Of The Elderly Care Center Under The Gender Difference

With the development of China’s aging population and the feminization of the senior population,the number and proportion of China’s elderly population is growing,the gender difference characteristics of aging are becoming more and more prominent,and the quantity and quality requirements of senior centers are also increasing.Gender blindness often exists in the current interior design of senior centers,i.e.,the gender characteristics in the use of senior living space are ignored.Especially in the context of the feminization of the elderly,the physical condition and actual needs of the elderly of different genders need to be taken into account in the design,which not only can improve the quality of life of the elderly of different genders,but also help to promote the rationalization and refinement of the interior space design of senior centers.This thesis firstly summarizes the research on senior centers,gender differences and spatial design at home and abroad through literature research.On the other hand,based on gender difference theory and Maslow’s hierarchy of needs theory,it explores the physiological and psychological difference characteristics of elderly people of different genders,and summarizes the different needs of elderly people of different genders in space by analyzing the differences in physical scale,disease health,mental health and life attitude of elderly people of different genders.On the other hand,the basic information,physiological and psychological characteristics of the elderly people living in the senior center were also analyzed.Finally,based on the above survey and research,we summarize the needs of elderly people of different genders in senior centers,including the three major aspects of facility needs,feeling needs and aesthetic needs,and propose three major principles for the design of interior space in senior centers under gender differences: difference,equality and adaptability,and at the same time,specifically analyze the design points of living space,public activity space and transportation space,and facility equipment in senior centers.Finally,under the guidance of the strategy and method,the design and practice of the space of Hutchinson Senior Rehabilitation and Care Center are combined to verify the applicability and feasibility of the strategy and principles of the design of the interior space of the senior center under gender difference.
