This paper addresses the issue of the loss of vitality in traditional neighborhoods due to social and era changes, specifically the loss of intangible cultural heritage and physical decay in traditional neighborhoods. In response, the concept of symbiosis is proposed for the creation of intangible cultural heritage(ICH)neighborhoods. The research focuses on the Chengtiansi ancient street in Dehua County,Quanzhou City,Fujian Province, which has a foundation in the traditional porcelain-making ICH.By introducing the intangible cultural heritage of Dehua porcelain firing techniques into the symbiotic system, this paper proposes a design strategy of "symbiosis" between the two.First, based on the demand for the development of intangible cultural heritage and the revitalization of neighborhood vitality,as well as the inherent interdependence between the two,the symbiotic protection of Dehua porcelain firing intangible cultural heritage and neighborhood space is proposed.By analyzing the current research status and relevant cases at home and abroad, and conducting basic research on symbiotic theory, the guiding significance of symbiotic theory for the symbiotic design of intangible cultural heritage and neighborhoods is clarified.Second, based on the theory of symbiotic systems and the methodological guidance of Kisho Kurokawa’s new symbiotic thinking, this paper proposes a design strategy of temporal symbiosis, heterozygous symbiosis, cultural symbiosis, and functional symbiosis, and implements it in the neighborhood space in combination with the needs and consensus of neighborhood renewal.Taking Chengtian Temple ancient street as an example,a comprehensive research analysis is conducted starting from the three symbiotic units of "neighborhood site space, community, and intangible cultural heritage represented by Dehua porcelain culture".The symbiotic design strategies of the masses, intangible cultural heritage, and neighborhood space are explored. Finally,in the specific design practice, the design concept of temporal symbiosis is used to highlight the cultural characteristics of the neighborhood by using the design method of heterozygous symbiosis. The symbiotic landscape structure is established with porcelain culture as the representative of intangible cultural heritage and the street life culture as the context at the level of cultural symbiosis.Three main design themes are formed, namely,"Porcelain Way Retrieval","New Stories of Porcelain Farmers",and "Street Life in the Flourishing Age"."Porcelain Way Retrieval" creates a space for intangible cultural heritage and enhances the experience of intangible cultural heritage, shaping the characteristics of the neighborhood."New Stories of Porcelain Farmers" and "Street Life in the Flourishing Age" start from the level of functional space symbiosis, focusing on the neighborhood’s living environment and street market space, and restoring the neighborhood’s street life culture. The goal is to achieve a win-win situation in the protection and activation of neighborhood space and intangible cultural heritage, and to find effective means for creating a new type of neighborhood with unique cultural landscapes and a harmonious and livable environment.
