Spontaneous vegetation has drawn an attention for their variety merits such as self-renewing,highly adaptive and which do not require any economic investments. These plants are considered the new approach to address resource consumption and landscape uniformity challenges in urban artificial plant communities. In this paper, the campus of Guangxi University is chosen as the research area unit to conduct a comprehensive investigation of the spontaneous vegetation species resources on campus using a combination of general surveys, line transect surveys, and plot surveys.Additionally, the application potential of spontaneous herbs in garden landscaping are evaluated and analyzed through the Analytic Hierarchy Process, identifying excellent spontaneous vegetation species and serving as a scientific basis for selecting low-maintenance and sustainable plants for green spaces in Nanning and other similar natural environments. The results are presented below:1.The campus of Guangxi University houses a total of 370 spontaneous vegetation species that belong to 89 families and 262 genera. The ferns, comprising of 23 species from 14 genera and 12 families, and angiosperms, consisting of 347 species from 248 genera and 77 families, make up the flora.Among the number of families, oligotypic families and monotypic families represent 80.90% of the total number of families, forming the primary families present.Similarly, among the number of genera, monotypic genera and oligotypic genera account for 99.24% of the total number of genera, correlating to 354 species and dominating the flora, indicating a significant differentiation potential for spontaneous vegetation on this campus. In terms of geographical distribution, the flora has a strong tropical nature, which is evident by looking at both the family-level and genus-level R/T ratios of the tropical geographical composition to the temperate geographical composition.2.The spontaneous vegetation on campus can be divided into five types:arbor, shrubs, vines, annual or biennial herbs, and perennial herbs.Among them, herbaceous plants hold the majority,The species numbers are 56,36,34,120,and 124,respectively.Among the spontaneous vegetation species, there are 285 native varieties and 85 exotic varieties, indicating the superiority of the indigenous plants. However, out of the exotic plant species,76 are invasive, necessitating vigilance in monitoring and prevention.3.The The spontaneous vegetation are imbued with distinct regional characteristics in their edible, medicinal, cultural and economic values.Notably, there are 77 species of edible plants,51 species of medicinal plants,21 species of cultural significance, and 47 species of economic importance. It is evident that many s The spontaneous vegetation possess rich cultural connotations and distinct regional qualities, making them a valuable resource for cultural within gardens.4.The average Shannon-Wiener diversity index for each biological environment throughout the entire year is arranged in the following ascending order: ecological parking lots(1.326)< hardened ground(1.726)< flower beds and tree basins(2.387)< wetlands(5.065)< cultivated land and orchards(5.673)< lawns(5.700)< woodland(6.664)< ground cover(6.765).Across seasonal changes, all biological environments show the highest Shannon-Wiener diversity index among spontaneous vegetation during summer, with a mean of5.097.The next highest periods are spring and autumn, with means of 4.723 and4.145,respectively.In contrast, the lowest mean value is recorded during winter,at 3.689.Moreover,the Pielou evenness index of all habitats has the highest mean value during summer,at 0.734.During spring and autumn, the index has a mean value of 0.723 and 0.663,respectively,while winter has the lowest mean value of 0.641.It can be observed that the Shannon-Wiener diversity index of spontaneous vegetation has certain changes under different biological environments and seasonal differences, which can provide a theoretical basis for creating heterogeneous landscapes.5.This paper applies the Analytic Hierarchy Process to construct a comprehensive evaluation system for the potential application of spontaneous herbs gardens on the campus of Guangxi University. The system uses four criterion-layer indicators: ornamental value, resource potential, ecological adaptability, and social value, and corresponding 14 evaluation indicators to form the complex evaluation system. The system is utilized to provide an indepth analysis of the garden application potential of 141 spontaneous herbs species.Meanwhile, according to particular quantity ratios and comprehensive scoring values, the spontaneous herbs located on the campus of Guangxi University are separated into 4 distinct tiers.Of the four tiers, the top-tier(Tier I)encompasses 14 distinct spontaneous herbs species with optimum scores, which are most favorably promoted for garden landscaping. The second-tier(Tier II)includes 42 other species and serves as a supplementary resource for garden use in the region, also recommended for promotion along with Tier I.The third-tier(Tier III)includes 56 additional species to be considered for use based on specific circumstances.Lastly, the fourth-tier(Tier Ⅳ)contains 29 species, which are not suited for landscape applications.
